HOLY WEEK READING & MEDITATION
Palm Sunday begins a time known as Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday on April 12. This is the most significant week in world history. Twenty-five percent of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and over fifty percent of the Gospel of John are dedicated to this one week in Jesus’ life and ministry. As our scriptures cover each day of Holy Week you will understand why as you read these daily devotions.
Our scripture for today could be entitled “Son Shine.” It records the cry of the crowds as Jesus made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. For years Jesus was not ready to reveal his Lordship, but today He was on full display. The King was entering His capital Jerusalem, and the whole earth seemed full of joy. Jesus shone in prophecy as His entered, riding on the back of a colt in direct fulfillment of Old Testament predictions. Jesus shone in praise as the people could not contain themselves, throwing palm branches and garments along the path as a makeshift “red carpet” for our Lord. And, Jesus shone in passion as he stopped and wept over Jerusalem, especially for the ones who were unaware of or who had rejected His coming. As you read our scripture verse for today, praise the Lord with all that is within you. After all, if we don’t, even the rocks will cry out, proclaiming His glory!
Matthew 21:9
"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"
