TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:10-14)
Paul was trying to decide where to go next to proclaim the Good News of the Messiah…Jesus. He tried to go to various places, but the Holy Spirit seemed to place obstacles in his way wherever he went. One night, he had a dream and saw a Grecian man calling, “Come over and help us!” Paul listened and went to the Greek city of Philippi, and the Gospel made the jump from Asia to Europe. Many of you reading this today are believers because of Paul’s obedience to follow the Lord’s leadership.
In his letter to the Philippians, Paul expresses his desire to know the power of Christ’s resurrection, even if it means having to share in His suffering. Are you experiencing trials and tribulations in your life? If you are a follower of Jesus, you have the confidence of victory, resurrection, and eternal life. So…forget what is behind, whether past successes or failures. Keep moving forward toward Jesus until you cross the finish line of this life and reach your true home…heaven!
