TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15). Paul writes to Timothy, a young Christian leader, about how to be most effective in serving both the Lord and the Church. To do this he is instructed to do several things:

First, Timothy is to make himself available to the Lord. He has already received God’s approval through the merits of Christ. Now he is to boldly present himself to Jesus as forgiven and unashamed! Only though Christ can we be and do anything of value. We always fail if the Lord is not in control.

Second, Timothy is to “correctly handle the word of truth.” According to this verse, God’s word is truth, but only if we handle it correctly. Many use the Bible in inauthentic ways. Others use God’s word to prove put forth a selfish agenda or use tortured interpretations to reinforce false and sinful ideas. Some even use the Bible as a battering ram to wound, control, and punish people. These abusive usages of God’s word are forbidden in scripture.

As you read our scripture verse for today. Pray that you can be bold, unashamed, and confident in your faith. Then present yourself fully to God and go on the great adventure of loving Jesus, serving others, and sharing His Word!
