Daily Reading Plan | June 03, 2021

Warning signs are around us everywhere. Traffic signs warn of intersections and dangerous driving conditions. Skulls and crossbones on a bottle warn us that poison is inside. And flashing lights on our dashboard warn us of engine failures. These warnings are not there primarily to scare us or to complicate our day, but are there to protect us and lead us in safety.

In our verses for today, Peter reminds his readers that they have been forewarned, not by a sign, label, or flashing light, but by God Himself. This entire book of the Bible cautions readers about false teachers and evildoers who have come into the church. These scriptures encourage believing readers to deal with these heretical influences through the power of Jesus. In doing so, we will begin to see spiritual and numerical growth in the church, we will effectively combat false teaching, and we will be alert and prayerful as we wait for the Lord’s return.

2 Peter 3:17-18

“Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”
