THE COLORS OF CHRISTMAS: "BLUE"
Numbers 15:37-39
The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘Throughout the generations to come you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel. You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the Lord, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by chasing after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes.’”

Colors can have powerful meanings, and in the Bible, God often used colors to teach His people important lessons. In Numbers 15, God commanded the Israelites to make tassels out of a blue cord and attach them to the corners of their garments. This wasn’t just for decoration—it was a symbol to remind them of His commandments and their special relationship with Him. Blue is the color of the sky and the heavens, so perhaps the Lord used this color to point the Israelites to His God’s holiness, and to their calling to live faithfully for Him.
Ask It
1. Why do you think God chose the color blue for the tassels?
2. How do symbols, like colors or items, help us remember important things in our lives?
3. What might be something you can use in your life today to help you to stay focused on God?
Live It
1. Make Your Own Reminder: Find a piece of blue fabric, string, or ribbon and place it somewhere you’ll see often—maybe in your room, on your backpack, or on the fridge. Let it remind you to pray and follow God’s ways throughout the day.
2. Memorize a Commandment: Choose a Bible verse about God’s instructions, like Micah 6:8 or Matthew 22:37-39. Practice it as a family and discuss how you can live it out.
3. Family Sky Watch: Spend some time outside looking at the sky. Talk about how the vastness and beauty of the heavens remind us of God’s greatness and faithfulness.
Pray It
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminders You give us of Your love and guidance. Just as You used the color blue to help the Israelites remember Your commandments, help us to keep You at the center of our thoughts and actions every day. Teach us to live in a way that honors You and helps others to see you through our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
