"Better Together"

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

Discover It

God designed us to live in relationships, both with Him and others. From the very beginning, the Lord said it was not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18). Throughout the Bible, we see the power of teamwork, friendship, and community. And our scripture for today teaches us that we are better together as we support one 11111111111111111111111111111another, strengthen one another, and share life together. And… being united as believers in Jesus Christ makes us stronger and more effective for God’s purposes.

Ask It

1. In what ways does a healthy family demonstrate the principle that "two are better than one"? What are some challenges or struggles you’ve faced as an individual or as a family, and how have you helped each other get back up? (SUGGESTION: Share an example where working together achieved something greater than working alone.)

2. In our scripture for today, what do you think the “three strands” in the strong cord refer to? How can we invite God to be the "third strand" in our family, making us even stronger?

Live It

1.Discuss with your family or Christian friends practical ways to grow spiritually together, such as prayer, worship, and serving others.

2. Meet the challenge to stay united. Don’t ever give up in your quest for love and unity. Overcome by praying and identifying areas where misunderstanding, conflict, or busyness might weaken bonds.

3. Don’t forget your church. God calls us to lift each other up in times of need. As a family of faith your church can be a source of encouragement and help.

4. Keep God at the Center: A cord of three strands—God, you, and others—is not quickly broken. As we grow closer to God, we grow closer to one another.

Pray It

Thank You for the gift of family and friends and the reminder that we are better together. Help us to love, support, and encourage one another as we journey through life. Teach us to be patient and forgiving, and to always seek unity in our relationships. Most of all, may You be the center of our lives, binding us together with Your love and grace. Strengthen us to face life’s challenges together and use us to bring glory to Your name. Amen.
