"Embarking on an Impossible Quest"

Galatians 6:14, Romans 5:8, Hebrews 12:14

“May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world,” (Galatians 6:14). “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” (Romans 5:8). “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord,” (Hebrews 12:14).

Discover It

Every believer’s journey of faith is like embarking on an impossible quest. The call to holiness and peace, as seen in Hebrews 12:14, can feel overwhelming. On our own, the quest is impossible—we are flawed and sinful. However, God’s grace makes the impossible possible. Romans 5:8 reminds us that while we were still sinners, Christ’s sacrifice on the cross bridged the gap between us and God. Galatians 6:14 calls us to boast only in the cross of Christ, acknowledging that victory over sin and the ability to live a holy life come solely through His work.

Ask It

1. Why do you think Paul emphasizes boasting only in the cross of Christ in Galatians 6:14? How does this change how we see ourselves?

2. What does Romans 5:8 teach us about God’s love? How does this truth empower us in our spiritual journey?

3. How can we “make every effort to live in peace” in the spirit of Hebrews 12:14 in today’s world? What practical steps can you take to pursue holiness and peace?

Live It

1. Rely on Christ. Holiness and peace are essential goals for a Christian, but they can only be achieved through reliance on Christ.

2. Express God’s Love. Christ’s love and sacrifice empower us to undertake what seems impossible. Pray to love the world as Jesus loves the world.

3. Surrender Daily to the Lord. We are called to daily surrender and dependence upon Christ and His Cross, remembering that our strength comes from Him.

Pray It

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son and the cross that bridges the impossible gap between us. We confess our need for Your strength to live in holiness and peace. Help us to boast only in the cross and rely on Your grace each day. Guide us in this journey of faith and transform us into Your likeness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
