"The Valley of Dry Bones"
"Then he said to me, ‘Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” (Ezekiel 37:4-6)
Discover It
Have you ever felt completely drained, like you had no strength left? Maybe you’ve faced a tough situation that made you feel like nothing could ever change. In Ezekiel 37, the entire Kingdom of Judah probably felt like this. The Babylonians had taken them captive and utterly defeated them. All was lost. Ezekiel finds himself in a valley filled with dry bones—lifeless and scattered, illustrating the hopeless state of the Jews. But then, something amazing happens! God tells Ezekiel to speak His word over the bones, and they begin to come back together. The Lord was showing that He can bring life and restoration, even when things seem impossible!
Ask It
1. Have you ever gone through a time when you felt spiritually or emotionally “dry”? How did you handle it?
2. Why do you think God asked Ezekiel to prophesy (speak) to the dry bones instead of just making them come to life instantly?
3. What are some ways we can invite God to breathe new life into our own hearts and situations? How can we encourage others who are going through a dry season in their faith?
Live It
1. Realize that God brings life where there is death. No situation is too hopeless for Him to restore.
2. Read and speak God’s Word over your struggles. Just as Ezekiel declared life over the dry bones, we should declare God’s promises over our challenges.
3. The Holy Spirit is the breath that revives us. When we seek God through prayer, worship, and His Word, He fills us with new strength and purpose.
Pray It
Heavenly Father, thank You that we are never too far gone for you to restore us. No matter how broken or distant we feel, Your power is able to bring us back to life! So, help us to trust in Your power to renew our hearts and circumstances. And please fill us with Your Spirit and give us strength to encourage others who are struggling. We believe that You are still bringing dry bones to life today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
