MOUNT NEBO - A HUMILITY EXPERIENCE
Deuteronomy 34:4
Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.”

Mount Nebo represents a significant moment in the life of Moses—a moment that teaches us about humility. Moses was a great leader, chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and through the wilderness. However, despite all his faithful service, Moses was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. Instead, from Mount Nebo, God showed Moses the land that the people would inherit, but he would not cross over himself. In Numbers 20, we see why this happened. When the people were thirsty, God told Moses to speak to a rock to bring forth water. In his frustration with the people's constant complaining, Moses struck the rock instead, taking credit for the miracle. This act of disobedience, though small in our eyes, was a serious matter to God because Moses failed to honor Him in front of the people. This teaches us the lessons of humility, obedience, and recognizing that we are accountable to God. Even when we don't understand why certain things happen or why God’s plans don’t align with our expectations, we are called to trust Him.
Ask It
1. Do you think God still loved Moses even though He didn’t allow him to enter the Promised Land? How can you tell in looking at this verse?
2. What are some ways we can show humility when things don’t go the way we hoped or planned?
3. Think of a time in your life when you needed to trust God even though you didn’t get what you wanted. Was God faithful? Did he come through for you?
Live It
1. Be Humble before God. No matter our position or status, we are all accountable to God. Moses' story reminds us that humility means trusting and obeying God, even when we don’t fully understand.
2. Recognize God’s Faithfulness. Even though Moses didn’t enter the Promised Land, God still honored him as His faithful servant, reminding us that God’s love and promises are secure.
3. See the Bigger Picture. Our lives are part of God’s greater plan, and sometimes we only see a small part of that. Trusting in His wisdom and timing is key to a life of faith.
Pray It
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the lessons we can learn from Moses' life. Help us to trust You fully, even when things don’t go the way we expect. Give us the humility to recognize that Your plans are greater than ours, and give us the strength to obey You in all things. Help us to remember that in every situation, You are working for good. May we always seek to honor You with our words, actions, and attitudes. In Jesus' name, Amen.
